LottoStar withdrawal in a nutshell
A LottoStar withdrawal is requested from your account and paid out through one of five methods: FNB eWallet, ABSA CashSend, EFT, Instant Money or Send-iMali. According to LottoStar's FAQ, payouts are processed every weekday at 07h00. Anything requested after that run waits for the next weekday, and there is no processing on weekends or public holidays.
Only Play Credits can be withdrawn. Promo Credits, Freebies and Habanero Free Money cannot, so check which balance you are looking at before you request a payout. If you still need to load funds, our LottoStar deposit guide covers every way in.
The 5 LottoStar withdrawal methods
LottoStar pays from an FNB account, which explains why some methods reach you faster than others. Here is how the money arrives with each option.
| Method | Bank behind it | How you receive the money |
|---|---|---|
| FNB eWallet | FNB | Sent to your cellphone number; you get a PIN to cash out |
| ABSA CashSend | ABSA | Collect cash using the PIN sent to your phone |
| EFT | Your own bank | Paid straight into your bank account; up to 48 hours for non-FNB banks |
| Instant Money | Standard Bank | Collect cash using the PIN sent to your phone |
| Send-iMali | Nedbank | Collect cash using the PIN sent to your phone |
Where and how you can collect cash for the PIN-based methods is set by each bank, so check the bank's own rules on ATMs and partner outlets. LottoStar notes that the minimum withdrawal depends on the method, and the withdrawal screen shows the current amount for each.
LottoStar withdrawal times and the 07h00 schedule
Think of the schedule as a single morning batch. A request placed at 06h30 on a Tuesday should go out in that morning's run. One placed at 07h15 on Tuesday goes in Wednesday's run.
Friday afternoon and long weekends are where people get caught out. A request made after 07h00 on Friday is normally processed on Monday, and if Monday is a public holiday it moves to Tuesday. For FNB eWallet, ABSA CashSend, Instant Money and Send-iMali, the PIN is sent the same day the withdrawal is processed.
Which LottoStar withdrawal method should you choose?
There is no single best option; it depends on where you bank and how you want to use the money.
You bank with FNB
Because LottoStar pays out from an FNB account, an EFT to your own FNB account avoids the inter-bank delay. FNB eWallet is another option if you would rather receive money on your cellphone.
You bank elsewhere and want speed
ABSA CashSend, Instant Money and Send-iMali all deliver a PIN on the day the withdrawal is processed, so you are not waiting on an inter-bank transfer. They suit players who are happy to collect cash.
You want the money to stay in your account
An EFT is the tidiest choice for record-keeping, since the payment appears on your bank statement. Just allow up to 48 hours if your bank is not FNB.
How to withdraw from LottoStar step by step
- Log in and check your balance. Confirm you have withdrawable Play Credits and no unfinished bonus playthrough.
- Make sure you are FICA-compliant. Upload valid documents first if your payout is over R25,000 or LottoStar has asked for them.
- Open the withdrawal section. Find the withdrawal option in your account menu.
- Choose one of the five methods. Pick FNB eWallet, ABSA CashSend, EFT, Instant Money or Send-iMali.
- Enter the amount and details. Double-check your cellphone number for PIN methods or your bank details for EFT.
- Submit before 07h00 if you can. That way your request joins the same morning's processing run.
- Watch for the PIN or bank credit. PINs arrive on processing day; EFTs to non-FNB banks can take up to 48 hours.
LottoStar FICA documents and the R25,000 rule
South African financial rules require operators to know who they are paying. LottoStar makes FICA verification mandatory for withdrawals over R25,000, and it can also ask for documents at its own discretion on smaller amounts.
ID document
A clear copy of your identity document.
Proof of address
Not older than 3 months, showing your name and residential address.
Bank proof
3 months' bank statements or a bank confirmation letter not older than 3 months.
Accepted documents are valid for 12 months from the stamp date. After that you need to resubmit them, so diarise the date if you plan to keep playing. Getting FICA done early, ideally just after you register and log in to LottoStar, saves a delay on your first big win.
Why LottoStar withdrawals get delayed
Most delays have a simple cause that you can fix yourself.
| Reason | What happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Requested after 07h00 | Waits for the next weekday run | Submit early in the morning |
| Weekend or public holiday | No processing until the next weekday | Plan around long weekends |
| EFT to a non-FNB bank | Can take up to 48 hours to clear | Use a cash-send method if speed matters |
| FICA missing or expired | Payout held until documents are approved | Upload ID, address and bank proof |
| Wrong cellphone or bank details | PIN or EFT goes astray or bounces | Update details and contact support |
| Bonus playthrough unfinished | Withdrawing forfeits the bonus | Finish playthrough or accept the loss |
Bonus playthrough and withdrawals
If you accepted the 100% Habanero Deposit Bonus up to R10,000, your deposit must be bet 1x on qualifying games and the Habanero Free Money 30x on Habanero games before bonus winnings become Play Credits. LottoStar's example: R35 of Habanero Free Money needs R1,050 in total bets.
Read the whole breakdown in our LottoStar bonus terms explained before you decide whether to take the offer. Star Rewards work differently: once activated, they are added as Play Credits and can be withdrawn if your account is FICA-compliant.
Do you pay tax on LottoStar winnings?
LottoStar's FAQ states that non-professional players do not declare or pay withholding tax on winnings, because these are treated as fortuitous income. Professional gamblers, on the other hand, must pay tax on their gambling income.
Where the line falls between a casual player and a professional depends on your circumstances. This is not tax advice; speak to a registered tax practitioner or SARS if you are unsure.
Cash out with a plan
Treat a withdrawal as the finish line, not a pause. Setting a target, cashing out when you reach it and leaving the rest of the day alone protects your winnings far better than betting them straight back.
LottoStar is for players 18 and over, and it offers cooling-off, self-exclusion and a self-assessment quiz. If you find you are chasing losses, call the SARGF helpline free on 0800 006 008. For more on how the operator is licensed and regulated, see is LottoStar legit.
